Coming as one..

As Typhoon 'Ondoy' slowly subsided, victims began helping other victims.

Help needed to start from somewhere.

We heard about it in the news, but didn't know how to react at first. The Philippines' only chance of survival at the time, were to help those who needed it most. Those who were most abled did so. There were people who were affected by the flood, but not as much as others who felt they had to help because it was their country, their duty.

Many cars were ruined and many houses destroyed.

Some offered their cars and let their family and friends borrow it. Others took family and friends into their homes for they had nowhere else to go.

There are shelters also set up around the areas most affected to help feed and clothe those left with nothing. Many students all around the Philippines volunteered their time, money, clothes and food to those in need. A huge crowd always surrounded these areas.

There are also sites set up so that people from other countries can send money to the victims of Typhoon 'Ondoy'. Many set up links through facebook and other networking sites, informing their friends about the situation in the Philippines and how they can help, how they can donate, and even how to send food and clothing. Red Cross is one of the many organizations dedicated to helping the victims.

There are also students and many filipino citizens from many countries dedicating their time to starting an organization at schools or workplaces in order to get word out and gather donations. An example of this would be the fundraising/donation drive at Humber College. There are several filipino students who are determined to get help from their friends to support their country and help those back home.

We can really see how people come together in times of great calamity.

Thank God for compassion.
